The PSI Malaria Department is looking for a Regional Program Manager to direct an exciting CIDA funded, multimillion dollar program to pilot community based delivery of free ACTs, in four African countries, and measure its impact on all cause child mortality in partnership with WHO/TDR.
Based
in PSI’s Global Malaria Department in Nairobi, this position will be
responsible for the design and implementation of the four country
pilots, including planning and coordination with national malaria
partners and supervising country teams who will be responsible for
executing program activities according to international quality
assurance guidelines. This position will also collaborate directly with
the program evaluation team under WHO/TDR direction.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports to the Deputy Director, PSI Global Malaria Department. Liaise
closely with the PSI country offices and the national malaria control
partners in each of the four pilot countries. Specific responsibilities
will include:
- Developing country specific implementation plans including timelines and assigned roles and responsibilities.
- Supporting the recruitment of country teams to implement the program.
- Working in partnership with National Malaria Control Programs to
ensure the proposed programs are inline with the national malaria
strategic plan.
- Ensuring the appropriate regulatory authorities are an integral part of the planning and implementation process.
- Providing quality assurance for product development and distribution,
training, communications development and program implementation.
- Organizing and facilitating annual planning and progress reporting forums.
- Supporting the procurement of quality assured ACT as required.
- Ensuring effective collaboration with partner organizations to ensure
all research outputs are in line with agreed plans and delivered on
time.
- Providing annual reports on program progress to country partners and CIDA .
- Organizing and managing the dissemination of results through an appropriate mix of media including peer review publications.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fluent in English and French
- At least a masters degree in Public health, social science or equivalent
- 5 – 10 years experience in managing public health programs in Africa
- Experience in delivering malaria control interventions
- Experience implementing standardized programs across multiple
countries and managing teams in multiple countries from a distance
- Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
- Self motivated with a demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a results orientated environment with minimal supervision
- Willingness to travel approximately 40% during the life of the program with higher levels likely in the first year.
- IT proficient
Experience with community management of childhood illness, home
management of malaria, malaria case management, malaria research would
all be an advantage.
